When Mo followed his heart from Gambia to the UK in 2018, it was without doubt a great adventure as he had no idea what was in store for him. It was important to him to find employment and he started out looking for jobs as a driver as this had been his profession back in Gambia.
He trawled job adverts and recruitment agencies, but his lucky break came via a phone call from his father-in-law, who drew his attention to a position at KE.
Mo was initially hired by us to undertake deburring and softening work. Since then, he has trained on the job and is now a valued member of our polishing and finishing team. Polishing is a vital element of metal manufacturing work, particularly for domestic items, which need a flawless finish before they can be installed in people’s homes. Mo says he greatly appreciates the supportive and friendly atmosphere among his colleagues at KE, which makes his working life a lot of fun.
But it’s not only at KE that Mo shines! He’s a talented and enthusiastic football player and he enjoys nothing more than an energetic kick-around with his community team. He has a brother living in Beeston and he greatly enjoys being part of the African community group, which includes not only local people originating from Gambia but also other African nations, including Congo and Guinea. The community arranges other events too, and Mo enjoys attending regular group activities, such as park meet-ups, meals and parties.
Mo’s eyes definitely light up when you talk to him about Manchester United! He’s always been a very enthusiastic supporter of his team and loves being near enough to attend matches at Old Trafford whenever he can. He may well take a bit of gentle teasing from his Leeds mates for supporting Man Utd, but Mo takes it all in his stride. Indeed, his cool and calm demeanour is one of the many things we at KE appreciate about Mo.
