Meet Darren, who joined Knaresborough Engineering in 2023, stepping into the role of a junior fabricator.
As a trainee, Darren navigates a significant learning curve, drawing on the invaluable expertise of his seasoned colleagues in the workshop. Each member brings a unique perspective, contributing to a supportive network that makes even the most routine tasks engaging. The fabricator role extends beyond welding, and Darren is constantly involved in various aspects of the shop floor, including driving, shot blasting, polishing, and supporting on-site work.
Darren’s journey into fabrication began in a previous job, where he discovered a genuine passion for the hands-on aspect of building and creating things. This realisation set him on the path to becoming a fabricator.
What Darren finds most rewarding about his job is the satisfaction of witnessing the finished product and knowing that he played a vital role in its creation. He thrives on the freedom to learn from more experienced peers, embracing challenging tasks that push the boundaries of his knowledge. Although it can be frustrating at times, the learning experience is always worthwhile in the end.
Outside of work, Darren’s interests are diverse. He is an avid reader, immersing himself in historical fiction and non-fiction, extracting valuable lessons from the past. He also enjoys playing PC games, especially simulation games where he has invested countless hours building and managing virtual farms. On a more personal note, Darren cherishes moments spent camping and bush-crafting with his son, sharing his love for the outdoors and imparting valuable skills along the way.
